NSW Industrial Relations Commission announces new Commissioner

Julian Arndt

Julian Arndt appointed Commissioner of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission

Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA) is delighted to congratulate Director Julian Arndt on his appointment as a Commissioner of the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales.

Julian brings more than fifteen years of specialist workplace relations and employment law experience to the role. He began his legal career working for a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia who sat on the Court's industrial law panel, before joining ABLA 12 years ago as an Associate. Over that time, he progressed to Director, building a reputation among clients and colleagues as a diligent, reliable and trusted adviser on complex industrial matters.

During his tenure at ABLA, Julian has contributed significantly to the firm's workplace and employment practice, acting for employers and industry associations on a wide range of industrial disputes, enterprise bargaining matters and employment law issues. He is widely regarded across the profession for his technical expertise, his fair-minded approach and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of workplace lawyers.

ABLA Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Ward, said the appointment was a significant honour for both Mr Arndt and the firm. "Julian is well suited to this role, not just for his technical and industrial acumen but for his passion for balance and fairness, which is at the core of who he is," Mr Ward said.

"It has been a privilege to share Julian's career journey with him over the past 12 years. He is a highly respected Director both inside and outside ABLA, and it is with great pride that this professional standing has opened the door to his appointment. On behalf of everyone at ABLA, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Julian. He takes up his new role with our full support, and we look forward to working with him in his new capacity on the Commission."

ABLA Managing Director, Luis Izzo, said he was thrilled with the appointment. "We could not be happier for Julian. The NSW Industrial Relations Commission has selected a candidate whose values, intelligence and deep understanding of industrial law will be a tremendous asset to the Commission and to the workers of NSW," Mr Izzo said.

"Julian has been an integral part of our workplace and employment practice for more than a decade. His appointment is well deserved, and it is a proud moment for everyone at ABLA who has had the privilege of working alongside him.

The NSW Industrial Relations Commission plays a vital role in regulating the terms and conditions of public sector workers in Australia’s largest state economy. The Commission has also pioneered the regulation of road transport contractors for decades - an area where ABLA has a preeminent reputation.”

ABLA’s team has a long tradition of appearing before the State Commission and looks forward to appearing before Commissioner Arndt.
